According to researchers, the number of asymptomatic patients in Pakistan is increasing gradually as compared to any developed country. The research conducted by the researchers of Aga Khan University reveals that 9 out of 10 patients infected by a coronavirus in Karachi, Pakistan found no symptoms of the disease. The study is based on more than 2000 patients and completed two phases.
Karachi is considered as the hub of COVID-19 cases as it reported most cases in Pakistan. The study also focused on the high and low rates transferal of the virus in April and June 2020 within the different parts of the city.
The Researcher of the Aga Khan University found that about 95% of COVID-19 patients who had positive test results and the traces of antibodies found in them were asymptomatic, as the main symptoms of the disease such as cough, fever, sore throat not reported. They claimed that asymptomatic cases in Pakistan are usually higher than the rest of the countries. The result also indicates that children and youngsters are also a carrier of the disease as adults. The chances of getting infected are equal in both men and women.
Moreover, the study claimed the dramatic increase in COVID-19 cases from 0.2 to 8.7 percent in low community transmission areas, and in high community transmission areas, the cases increase from 0.4 to 15.1, between April and June 2020.
The researchers said it is important to understand how, when and in what type of situations the virus spread in order to stop this spread. The dramatic increase in the traces of antibodies, in the area having low, reported cases indicates that the virus is transmitting continuously in the areas where the testing system is not up to the mark. They added the antibodies testing helps them to identify the real situation because it reveals the silent carriers of the disease and alerts about the actual danger of the disease.
From the past few weeks, the decrease in the COVID-19 cases has been observed. The government has now put the restrictions off from the lockdown and allow the businesses to run their regular activities. As the cases are reported on daily bases, according to experts there is less chances that the disease would remerge with its previous severity.
